When Viewing Examples of Student Work:

Often a single example of work may not demonstrate all the required objectives for a particular assignment. Instead students should collectively consider: the required objectives for each assignment, the multiple examples presented on this website and during in class presentations. As well ideas discovered through a student's independent research in combination with various examples and ideas presented by instructor will ultimately be the best approach for synthesizing ideas and reaching the requirements (and unique outcome) for any particular course project. Attendance and participation in all classes and meeting with instructor with Art Assignments in progress well in advance of deadlines will increase chances for desired grade. Art Material Characteristics

- Consider the most effective use for each art material utilized in the assignment.

- During the making of an art assignment  a person should  independently investigate and learn to understand the potentials (and the limitations) of each of the selected  art materials. (Studies or preliminary works to experiment with art materials is strongly encouraged)

- Generally each art material will have specific strengths when used in certain contexts

- Consider the following characteristics of each art material used:

Opaqueness (Learn which  materials will completely cover mistakes)

Translucency  (Learn which  art materials will allow you to see through that art material allowing you to see layers of other art materials)

Transparency (matte medium, gloss medium and gel mediums)

Physicality (art material's characteristics of thickness and thinness when applying material to a                              surface)

Technique and Precision (some art materials and specific techniques will allow for more precision and precise use of lines)

Textures and Mark Making (convincing intentional use of textures and directions of mark making)

During art lectures for the course, all of the above information will be discussed. Examples of student works and video demonstrations of art materials by instructor will cumulatively be presented in all the art lectures.
